3 hour tour continues - Day 2

So the "3 hour tour" continues with no casualties yet. I checked in around 5:00 this evening to find mom sitting on the bow of the boat watching for the next lock on the canal on their way to Amsterdam (the end point for day 2). They'd made it through 8 locks at this point, boat in tact, but Dad's ego is taking a beating by Mom. I had a hard time getting all the details, she was laughing so hard as she recounted the numerous times she'd had to tell Dad he was an idiot. He's been a bit nervous today, one step short of having a heart attack in mom's opinion. The locks, something completely foreign to both of them, were a big source of his stress. The first one they hit, they had no idea what they were doing. Mom describes how she was trying to help guide the boat through, you're supposed to just glide in, but they're banging around a bit, when finally a voice from the boat ahead yells out "Captain, take your hands OFF the controls!" Doohh!! They follow the boat in, mom's still sitting up on the front of the boat, when the lock master approaches and yells to Dad "Are you traveling together?" pointing ahead to the other boat. Dad calls back "Yes, that's my wife!" Doohh! Idiot moment number two! They called ahead to the next lock on the radio to tell them they were approaching. The lock master radio's back "Which way are you headed?" Dad tells mom to tell him they're headed to Seneca Lake. She saved him from public embarressment yet again by pointing out he probably wants to know if they're coming from the east or west. Doohh!!!
I'm sure he'll relax a bit tomorrow and regain his senses. Mom in the meantime has started a journal in order to be able to remember all his "moments" (Dad thinks she's charting gas mileage). Eating and sleeping on the boat. Mom packed food for this trip similar to how Nancy packs spices for LBI, so they are well stocked. Until tomorrow's check in!

Fantastic!!!! Love the boat, sounds like a great adventure even with all the "stress points" Just think they will be "Locks" experts!
