Qualifying Tournament For Mahoney Championship

For years the only way to be able to play in the Mahoney Championship was to have played in it the year before or have won it the year before. Thus limiting the competitive field to only two members of the family (we know who they are).
Last year how ever on the eve of President Barrack Obama's historic run for office, the powers that be decided in there infinite wisdom to open the books for two hungry athlete's of the younger generation. Experience prevailed and the young bucks barley made the cut.
There have been rumblings all year on who the books should be opened for this year. The only fair way to decide would be to have a qualifying tournament in L.B.I. On a course no one has played before. Ultimately the decision is not mine. But I'm looking for support from the peanut gallery to make this tournament fully integrated with no age or geographical discrimination. Hey if Hootie Johnson can open up so can you!
P.S. For those who are curious why Nancy would be weighing in on such a matter this is Patrick Thomas. All hate mail and otherwise should be directed at me not MOM!

haha i wasnt invited till i was a junior in college i believe... but i can't speak to discrimination (isn't that what golf is all about?), i'm just happy to be invited back every year. speaking of patrick thomas, he is conspicuously absent from this blog. is he familiar with how to use the internet?

I admit, the first thing i did was to check who was making the post--i knew it couldn't be danny or tommy--talk about not knowing how to use the internet!
but i was even MORE perplexed when i saw nancy's name
the universe spun back into alignment when i realized patrick was blogging--although he is blog-recalcitrant, i know he can find his way through the blog-o-sphere.
i will follow this with more interest than i have ever given to golf before!

It's a sad day when a golfer can not come to the golf committee (uncle dan and uncle tom) and filed the necessary paperwork requesting a change from an invitational tournament to an open status tournament. The mahoney event has historically been like the masters, an invitation. Changing it to an open status may allow sub-par (no pun intended) players to participate. Last year is a good example of two players who played well for nine holes, but were really not up to a full 18. I suggest that if Jeffery, Patrick, or Brendan is capable of beating little Tommy from the whites in 18 holes than the committee (uncle dan and uncle tom) will give serious consideration to changing from an invitational to an open status. I assume that an open status means that even Shannon could play.

One year's less than stellar performance shouldn't preclude an invitation. I'm pretty sure top 5 finishers at the Masters are automatically invited the next year... and not being invited after a 4th place finish last year would seem to me that it warrants an invitation.

Regarding the young tommy, maybe we should refer to the career of another golfer who was exposed to the extreme pressure of high level golf at too early an age: Michelle Wie.
