Bruce challenges garda at airport
Ha Ha! We are now at Shannon airport awaiting our flight to Edinburgh. We have free wifi here and we are at the gate an hour and a half early. I'm getting lots of grief for that. Anyway, when we cleared out our fridge at the cottage this morning, we had almost a whole liter of Coke left. So, Bruce and the boys drank about half of it enroute to Shannon. When we dropped off our car, Jamie offered to ditch the remaining soda. Bruce cavalierly commented that he thought he could take it to the gate with him. Ha ha. So, Jamie and I go through security without a hitch. Brendan forgot to take his ipod out of his pocket, but no big deal. All of a sudden, we notice Bruce has been taken to the garda post to have his carry on inspected. They pull out a half liter bottle of soda! (I was not privy to his plan). The security person looked like he was just out of high school and this was his first day on the job. He just looked at Bruce in disbelief when he held up the bottle. Not 3 ounces of liquid, by any accounting! So, then, of course, if they find one offending item, they have to take EVERYTHING out of the bag...While Bruce is waiting, he thinks he can drink some of the soda, so he starts to pick up the bottle. The poor young garda looked stunned and stumped at his bold move! He quickly retrieved the bottle saying, "No sir, I cannot let you drink any of that" (contraband now!) That is the story of checking in to Shannon airport! All is well now, but no soda for Bruce! Love to all. More later when Jamie lets me use his laptop again!

OMG with all the travel he does--and he thinks that an airport in a country that has only recently stopped worrying constantly about security threats is going to let a large bottle of liquid in?
Who does he think he is Jack Bauer? Macguyver?
I'm surprised though that they didn't let him drink it--it would have proven that it wasn't some dangerous liquid explosive!!
in fact, before they stopped letting us take liquids through, they used to make you take a sip in front of them as you went through . . .
YOu are having some very amusing experiences--although i imagine some of them are not as amusing at the time. . unless you have truly adopted the local attitude. . . ah well, if the ferry doesn't come today, it will come tomorrow for sure.
Glad you are having a great time
can't wait to see pix and hear stories
be dim or be delusional about what you can get away with going through security
